Leadership Development Programme for Practice Managers
Overview
A 3 day Leadership Development Programme designed to support Practice Managers in developing appropriate attitudes and skills for effective leadership within their GP Practice
Objectives
Day 1: Empowering and Motivating Staff
By the end of the day participants will be able to:
* Describe a range of leadership skills and select appropriate styles dependant upon the circumstances
* Analyse motivation levels of individuals at work
* Use a range of techniques to enhance motivation and encourage empowerment in the team
* Describe the key components for effective teamwork and plan to achieve this in their own teams
Day 2: Effective Relationships and Communication Skills
By the end of the day participants will be able to:
* Identify positive and negative communication styles
* Use Transactional Analysis to recognise the effect of a variety of communication styles
* Identify the principles of behaving assertively
* Demonstrate effective listening skills and techniques
* Phrase questions in a way that enables relationship building and emphatic listening to occur
* Use effective communication skills to solve problems
Day 3: Managing Staff Performance
By the end of the day participants will be able to:
* Describe the 4 key stages of Performance Management
* Differentiate between the stages and take appropriate action at each stage
* Describe how and when to give feedback to members of staff
* Speak to members of staff about poor performance and to develop an action plan
* Use a series of techniques to encourage and support personal change and influence behaviour change in others

Relevance to the KSF
The 3 day Leadership Development Programme can be converted to a Certificate in Management and Leadership Level 5 with Chartered Management Institute.
To convert the programme you will need to undertake 2 written assignments.
Cost: £500 of which £250 can be claimed via the Train to Gain Grant
The Leadership and Management Advisory service offers the ability to access a grant of up to £1,000 to fully capitalise on your capabilities and talents as a business leader.
To be eligible you will need to:
- employ between 5 and 249 people
- undertake a skills review to confirm your requirements.
The Service provides in-depth advice and diagnosis in order to provide you with an innovative and challenging personal development plan. In the first instance, funding should be used to benefit the business owner or senior manager, but other managers can become involved through further employer investment.
